SOLUM Project Team

Dr Matthew Saunders

Dr Saunders is Assistant Professor in Plant Sciences, in the Trinity College Dublin, School of Natural Sciences. His research interests lie in the area of environmental physiology with particular emphasis on how plants respond to changes in their physical, chemical and biological environments and how this information can be used to assess the resilience and adaptive capacity of terrestrial ecosystems to global environmental change.

Dr Stuart Green

Dr Green is a Remote Sensing specialist in the Spatial Analysis Unit in Teagasc. His research interests include mapping land use and soils using GIS and remote sensing techniques. He has produced national land cover, soils and habitat maps and is considered a national expert on land use mapping

Black
Dr Kevin Black

Dr Black is a greenhouse gas inventory specialist for the land use land use change and forestry (LULUCF) sector. He developed the forest GHG inventory for Ireland and currently contributes to the EPA LULUCF GHG inventory.

Dr Gabriela M. Afrasinei

Dr Afrasinei  is a Geographer and a remote sensing and GIS post-doctoral researcher in the Spatial Analysis Unit at Teagasc, with +7 years of experience in environmental sciences and interdisciplinary research background in Romania, Italy, Tunisia and Australia. She was awarded her PhD in 2016 from the University of Cagliari, Italy. Her research interests focus on soil and land use (LCLU) mapping, grassland management intensity classification, change detection, land-soil-water interaction, integrated analysis of land degradation and desertification dynamics. She has a particular interest in geospatial analysis, applied remote sensing, digital image processing, spectral analysis, satellite imagery classification, decision tree classifiers. She undertook research within the WADIS-MAR EU Project, and collaborated in the frame of H2020 FLOWERED Project. She authored and co-authored several articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals and conference papers, and served as a reviewer for several journals (Publons).

Alina
Dr Alina Premrov

Dr Premrov is a post-doctoral research fellow at Trinity College Dublin. Her research interests span a variety of areas that include the measurement and modelling of soil-carbon stocks and changes, especially in relation to climate and land-use change, areas of agricultural diffuse pollution, including areas of environmental hydrology and groundwater/water quality, nutrient dynamics (N and C) and their fluxes and pathways in terrestrial ecosystems. Previously, Alina was a post-doctoral researcher on the CForRep project at University College Dublin, where her research focused on the measurement and modelling of soil-carbon stocks in Irish afforested mineral soils. Alina completed her PhD at the Geology Department, Trinity College Dublin (2011). Her doctoral research focused on the investigation of the measures (over-winter green cover and tillage practices) to reduce nitrate losses to groundwater from tillage land, with field experiments and the majority of laboratory analyses based in Teagasc Research Centres in Ireland.

Jesko
Dr Jesko Zimmerman

Dr Zimmerman is a Data Technologist in the Agrifood Business and Spatial Analysis Department in Teagasc. His particular interests lie in spatial analysis, land use dynamics, greenhouse gas emissions and mitigation options in agriculture, as well as ecology and biodiversity.
